Zen Vision :M Video Cable & Other 4-Pole 3.5mm Pinouts

av-cables.jpg

When writing the review for the Creative’s Zen Vision:M I was frustrated to find out that the audio/video cable was not a “standard” camcorder cable that you can buy at any store. Creative did not have them in stock so I made my own from a commonly found camcorder cable from the local brick and mortar store. You can do the same with the pinouts listed below but that requires splicing and soldering. If you are not into that, there are other unexpected places you can find an A/V cable for your Zen Vision:M.

av-pinouts-zune.jpg

As you can see the Archos, Zen Vision:M, and iBook A/V cables have the same pinouts. Amazon has the Archos and the iBook cable available for sale or if worst comes to worst you can buy it from the (gasp...) Apple store. (no he didn’t) They all sell for around the same price.

Thanks, I added this over at epiZENter.net. The Cowon A2 a/v cable also works. Also cables for Canon cameras like the SD450 work, but you have to pull out the connector one click.

Ross on April 5, 2006 11:06 AM

I just wanted to say that if you're using a regular Video Camcorder Cable, all you have to do is just plug the Red Audio into the Video Jack (for composite cables only...), and the yello (video) into the Red (audio) input. The 3 cables and connectors on a standard video (camcorder) cable should all be identical 75-ohm cable, just the housing on the connector is a different color. If you ignore this, you can use a standard cable from a place such as monoprice.com on the cheap, and not have to go hunting around and paying an absurd amount for a specific cable.

EnzoTen on April 5, 2006 11:34 AM

Ross: That is completely untrue. The common grounds are different on the Zen Vision:M cable compared to the standard "camcorder cable". You cannot simply switch the cables. The ONLY way to get a camcorder cable to properly work with the vision M is to cut it up.

Troy on April 5, 2006 1:56 PM

I have a question on this matter... I bought a video adapter cable on ebay. It was advertised as being specifically for the Zen Vision:M

When I tried it, the video output was scrabbled. Any idea what's wrong there???

Michael on April 5, 2006 3:01 PM

The scrambled thing sound like you should pull the 3.5" plug one click from the connector, it should work.

EnzoTen on April 5, 2006 3:08 PM

Troy, you got ripped off. They sold you a standard camcorder cable. You can pull it out a notch as Michael suggests but you are essentually loosing your left audio cannel.

Troy on April 5, 2006 4:26 PM

thanks for the heads up... luckily it was only a couple bucks. So worth playing with & resplicing, aye???

rodney on April 5, 2006 5:23 PM

Ross is right. I have a Vision M, use a standard cable and it works fine.

EnzoTen on April 5, 2006 8:19 PM

If you have a cable that has pinouts of "right", "ground", "video", "left", then this is the most commonly found cable in the United States. It is what most companies call a "camcorder cable". This is what i am calling a "standard" cable. Rodney if yours works it is not a "standard camcorder cable" with the same pinouts listed above.

If the ground is NOT in position 1, then the cable cannot be made to work unless you cut it up or pull it out "one click", putting the ground in position 1. The ground pinout is present on all three RCA cables as the outer shield. The center polls on the RCA cables handle the left, right, and video signals.

Troy on April 6, 2006 1:49 PM

I tried it last night, pulled out one click - very nice.

I had emailed the guy I bought from, he said that he "found out 'they' changed it, and is getting a shipment of the new cables in next week". I emailed him back asking if he plans to replace the ones purchased and he agreed. He directed me to send back the one he had sent me, so I'll be all good soon. In the meantime I have the one that came with my camcorder, heehhee...

rodney on April 6, 2006 9:06 PM

I stand corrected, the cable I bought on ebay as a standard camcorder cable has #1 as the ground and #2 and #3 swiched. Guess I got lucky. The description said it was

"compatible with most MiniDV and Digital8 camcorders made by Sony, Canon, JVC, Samsung, Panasonic and Sharp. It also works with many Hi8 camcorders and Sony Cybershot/Mavica digital cameras."

Jazz on April 12, 2006 10:58 AM

Any advice for splicing and soldering? Since even the local apple store does not have the iBook cable in stock, I figured I'd buy a camcorder cable from Radio Shack and try to "fix" it (if I can find my old soldering iron). Appreciate nay help!

Nathan on April 13, 2006 9:45 AM

I am getting a Creative within two weeks. Is it possible to plug it into a TV and have it broadcast the video signal to the TV? I wanna say that's what this article is about, but I just want to know if I need anything else. E-mail please!

JP on April 14, 2006 1:08 PM

Zen Vision M has just reached our shores this month and most if not all accessories are not yet available. My question is: Can you use the 30G iPods A/V cable with Zen Vision M? Thanks.

I found this post a bit late. I've spent all day being angry with my ZVM because my AV just wouldn't work. Then i find this site discussing how there are different cables and so I inspect my box, to see it's designed for an IPod Photo/Video. Oh well, at least the chick at dick smiths will be pleased to know why it wouldn't work.

TonyJazz on April 18, 2006 6:49 PM

I bought the iBook cable starting with the hyperlink on this page, but the cable doesn't appear to work. I get sound but no picture. I tried a 'one-click' backout, too, but then I lost the sound, too....

Is there some special requirement about when you 'boot up' the ZVM and perform the cable connection or something (is there a specific order to these events that is required)? Or does someone have a different suggestion? (If not, maybe that hyperlink & suggestion should be removed from this page?)

Last comment: THANK YOU for this website. I go here a lot and greatly appreciate your work!!!!

Omar on April 24, 2006 6:36 PM

Tony, If you're getting sound but no picture, you are probably plugging in through the headphone jack instead of the A/V Out Jack which is on the bottom right of the dock adapter for the ZVM. Make sure you connect it properly and try again.

Josh on April 25, 2006 6:42 PM

So going through monoprice.com such as Ross says and ordering a A/V Composite connector for camcorder (3.5mm to 3RCA) and this will worK?
Thanks for any help on this post

EnzoTen on April 25, 2006 7:39 PM

No it will not work.

daines1 on April 27, 2006 12:00 PM

So will the cable from Cowon work?

I wasn't sure if it had been disputed not to work.

Daines1

Tony Jasinski on April 27, 2006 3:49 PM

Omar, you are right! I would not have expected that the video connection would be different from the audio one. Once I used the dongle, my video (and audio) all worked fine.

Thank you for your 'contribution'.

The Cowon cable and the iBook cable both work with the ZVM!

Core on April 29, 2006 8:39 PM

I totally forgot about this feature after reading the manual, of course I though 'why the hell would a usual a/v cable not work' but it wasnt important at the time. Anyway I found this http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/4684/avcable228dj.jpg and pulling it out a click made it work fine on my room tv.

Core on April 29, 2006 8:42 PM

Ohh yeah, im not sure about the left channel being lost as my room tv has only one speaker.

Will on April 30, 2006 11:04 AM

Hey thanks for the pinout images. I bought a non generic ipod cable from dick smiths for $18au. I knew that i had to cut it up but did not realise it was diffirent from the camcorder cable and low and behold it worked but the screen had vertical lines through it. So, i'll re-wire it going by the ipod specs as above...

Hey, If I use the Apple iBook cable for my Vision: M will there be any difference than using the Creative AV cable? Will there be any loss of video or audio? Have any of you guys used the iBook calbe and have you seen a difference?
thanks

The A/V cable that comes with the Archos Gmini works too, 'cause I use my roommate's for my Zen Vision: M

John on May 1, 2006 7:48 PM

I am going to buy a regular 3.5mm av cable. How do I simply pull out the ground to make it work.

Will on May 2, 2006 8:22 AM

This diagram is for a normal camcorder cable, very helpful,
Link for a Re-wiring diagram for the Camcorder cables!!!>>>

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v94/mabrandt5/ZVMrewiringguide.jpg

Virtually Any 3.5mm-to-3RCA's that you buy from electrical stores for like $5-$10 is generally a stock standard camcorder cable. let's say that you can only buy a non generic ipod cable then go by the picture up the top of the page for re-wiring an ipod cable like i did!
>
Ive allready re-wired an ipod cable as above(non-generic) and a normal cable(camcorder) and they work how they are supposed to. You may get a very very very faint distortion in your tv with these modded cables. Mine distort just a fraction but that don't bother me cos u can hardly even tell, plus there only like 700mb torrent videos anyhow.
>
>
I just finished wiring the cables into the head unit(stereo)and to my LCD screen in my car, and it works perfectlly!!!
Good luck soz about long post but hope it helps.

John on May 2, 2006 3:47 PM

Thanks Will for the fast response. This will help me a lot when I mod the wire.

Will on May 2, 2006 10:55 PM

John,
>
if you get a regular av cable and you don't want to cut it up then i suggest you only get the one 2 RCA's, the LEFT(white) and the RIGHT(red).
>
Plug the red one into the video socket of your tv and the white one into any of the audio sockets.
>
THen all you do is pull the 3.5mm jack out of the ZenVM by about 2-3mm, you will only get mono sound being that one of the RCA's is for video and the other is for audio, but you do get a really good picture.

Ive got one of these also, it only cost me $4AU

volkan on May 3, 2006 2:52 PM

Hi, I have Creative Zen Vision M and yesterday somehow screen frozen, didn't respond to anything. I tried to reset it but stupid me I tried microphone hole :) After couple of try I realized "real" reset hole but now I'm worried about microphone. I tested it and functioning well but What possibly caused my stupidity? Any idea...? Don't laugh by the way...

I also was looking for an AV cable and found this thread very helpful. I don't know quite too much about cables and electronics, but I found a simple and cheap solution at the dollar store with the help of Will's post. I would have gotten the cable that has just audio and video but it was not available.

I bought two things. One was a 3.5 mm plug to RCA jacks (described as a 3.5 mm male plug split to two seperate female RCA jacks). The second was your standard audio video cable with three RCA plugs on each end.

I took them home (cost me about $3 since the second cable was $2) and followed Will's advice. I connected the cords together and plugged the mini plug into my Zen Vision, but I pulled it out about half a centimeter. It works perfectly fine since I'm not fussy about having mono sound.

Will on May 11, 2006 11:11 AM

Grace2,

The cable doesn't specifically have to have a (Yellow-VIDEO) RCA with it.

I'll assume you asked the shop keeper for a cable, and that one of the RCA's had to be (VIDEO!!!-Yellow) and the other RCA had to be (AUDIO-Red or White)

It doesn't matter, the yellow VIDEO RCA is made of exactly the same material as the 2 AUDIO RCA's(white)-(red) but there just diffirent colours, that's all! Although, one of my VIDEO RCA's did have a single thick copper strand, but it didn't matter cos it was chopped and switched anyway's!

So, forget about the colours, jus't concentrate on the rewiring. As long as you have a 3.5mm cable to either (2) or (3) Male RCA's, you'll be fine.

Glad i could help, $2 is alot cheaper than the generic cable!

Dee on May 13, 2006 6:49 PM

Anybody found a way to dismantle the docking station an invert order inside? Sounds scary but may be a also a solution.

ALEX on May 14, 2006 6:48 AM

Thanks for all the help on the a/v cable. Its not that I dont want to pay a reasonable price for an important accessory like the A/V cable, but here in Australia Creative Labs has been so absolutely miserable in customer support and retailer training, that you cant get these cables even if you want to pay the rip off prices. Went to JB HIFI, Dick Smith Electronics and found that they knew everything about I-Pod , but nothing about Creative Zen M. They sold me in both places a normal a/v cable, claiming it would work on the Zen M.
So modifying normal A/V cables are certainly the answer over here.

Will on May 14, 2006 9:37 AM

Yeah, i'm from Australia also and have come up against the same problems as ALEX. At this stage your best bet is to MOD a cable!!!

Dee:

I think the actual docking station is for the connection to your PC only.
I think you mean the little dongle thing that plugs into the bottom of the ZVM which in turn you can plug the video, charger and usb cable into! But i think you could certainly change the connections in the dongle if you knew what you were doing of course.

Too which, i have seen a website that dismantled one of these dongles and it also had pictures and how to do it also. And here is the link

I just ordered the Cowon A2 A/V out cable, for 9.99 I believe. But as i proceeded to check out, i saw that the shipping was almost 8 dollars! So, even though this cable may look to be much cheaper, i still ended up charging 17.50 to the credit card.

Will on May 28, 2006 4:53 PM

Woohooh i finaly got my hands on a cable 2 days ago and an authentic leather case! Guys you can now purchase the ORIGINAL Creative zen vision m: cable in Australia for a very cheap price of $24.95Au, from believe it or not, Toys "R" us. To the best of my knowledge no other retail store has them except for Toys "R" us! And the leather protective case is about $50Au.

Creative must be listening to all of the complaints of theire Creative forum users about cost/availability etc.

dixon on May 31, 2006 4:16 PM

Does anyone know how long the official zen vision: M cable is? This could be another argument against it. I want a cable that is at least 10 feet long.

Will on June 4, 2006 7:30 AM

I know exactly what u mean dixon! I had mine resting just on the coffee table cos the cord wasn't long enough. Another thing is that i want to get a wireless av transmitter ($90 AU) to send the video signal to other TV's through a wireless connection, but i'm not sure if it will do it because of creatives stupid cable! If you wan't 10 feet of cable then the official cable wont be long enough, You may beable to extend it with another adapter cord, but i don't know if the cable will conflict with creatives cable.

To the best of my knowledge they can be bought, but ive only seen them on Ebay, but do a google search for them. And you will need to read the Thread on this sight regarding the opening of the unit in order to replace a battery!!!

Dan on June 13, 2006 11:20 AM

You can use a psp external charger that uses AA batterys or u can get the one that uses the psp charger to charge first then u have 2 batterys

Will on June 13, 2006 4:45 PM

Yeah i tried that dan but at one stage during charging, it seemed as though it was draining the ZEN battery instead of charging it!
Have you had this problem? If not, how long does it take you to charge the zen battery if it's nearly all drained, with the PSP AA charger?

Will on June 15, 2006 5:44 AM

Not sure, Try ebay for some foreign REMOTES for the zen vision M!
But from what ive searched so far, i don't think so.

Genosyde on July 12, 2006 6:22 AM

I'm thinking of getting a ZVM so I am just doing my homework on the net when I came across this article. I don't own a ZVM yet but I'm just wondering if it is possible to use a normal a/v cable (either 2 or 3 RCA jacks) and so the one-click back trick to get video and then use another audio cable (3.5mm to 2 RCA) and plug it to the headphone jack to get stereo sound? You will need two 2 different cables (and possibly a 3rd 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter) but it is still cheaper and plausible if you only require this setup once a while.

e on July 12, 2006 8:23 AM

Genosyde,

The cable is $9. Save yourself some headaches and just buy the right cable!! The one click back trick is a terrible solution.

Will on July 12, 2006 5:43 PM

Genosyde,

You won't get good sound out of the Earphone jack! just go and buy the original cable, they are no where near as expensive as one first thought!

And the quality of the cable is second to none. Mind you, i don't like the big ferrite adapter that is on the end-but atleast you can take that off if you want.

remote works with resistance between 1st and 2nd pole.

I have a 4 Pole 3.5mm connector that I need an adaptor to make into a 3 pole 2.5 mm connector. the tricky part is its a Avionic Plantronics headset with one sigle plug. I want to find an adaptor to turn it into two plugs so that I can plug it into my sound card on my PC and use it to send and recieve audio. to simplify 4 pole 3.5mm connector that needs adaptor two turn it into two cables each has a connector of a 3 pole 2.5mm. Not very simple I know but if any help or suggestions on where to look i would MUCH appreciate it.

something_clever on November 2, 2006 6:42 PM

For people splicing/dicing the a/v cables with ground/shield on any other connectors other than #1. Cut as close to the 3.5mm plug as possible to avoid noise and benefit from the shield.

To those who "pull the plug one click" out on standard camcorder cables you only get video and left audio channel. I prefer stereo!

Too bad you cannot buy a 4 poled 3.5mm plug and just solder some cables unto it! At least I couldn't find said item where I live not even on Farnell components!

cable_dongle_maker on November 7, 2006 9:14 AM

I crosswired a 3 rca female jacks to 3 rca male jacks...
BUT:
I get audio noise in the left & right channels.. my solution works and the audio noise is similar to a sound card output on a computer so, no big deal.
Just wondering if this might have any long term affects on the zvm.. not too concerned with the tv as it is circa 1991. I suspect that the skinny rca wires cannot hold ground correctly (needs MORE SOLID COPPER) and would need to be spliced all the way back to the 3.5mm pole, thus defeating the purpose of an rca dongle (to not cut into the cable).

I may splurge for a zvm cable if I can get it shipped to my door for ~$11 or less.

Yeah, we hobbyists NEED 4-pole connectors.. probably not even something you can pick up at your local radioshack either :-(
(even if they had the connector, you'd pay about $8-10 just for that, ha!) At least the hobyists can hold out until there IS a good deal on cables _properly wired/grounded_

I bought myself an original av cable but when i connect it to my tv i only get sound no video. I connected the cable to the dongle (not the headphones on top). I also set the video output to PAL (Belgium). Tried NTSC but doesn't work either.
I checked the pinning and they are as stated above.
Anyone any ideas?

Psyklist on November 18, 2006 5:20 AM

Kevin,

(1) Make sure the yellow, male RCA plug is connected to the yellow video INPUT on your TV. (2) You might need to use your TV's remote control to select LINE1 (or something similiar) as the video input. (3) I would try another video device on your TV's input or try the Vision on another TV or plug it into your VCR's video input. (4) You said you checked the pinouts and they are the same, but if you pull the cable out 'one notch' from the sync adapter and you get video o/p then you have a standard camcorder cable. (5) Use a multimeter to check the cable integrity.

swateam on November 18, 2006 9:58 PM

for those asking about external battery packs, i got one on ebay similar to this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Creative-Zen-Vision-Vision-M-Battery-Extender_W0QQitemZ330051225716QQihZ014QQcategoryZ86541QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and I can definitely say it was worth the investment. I haven't completely tested it yet, but I've heard that it practically doubles your viewing/listening time (if the internal battery is fully charged too)

Laestrigone on November 26, 2006 2:08 AM

Steps to perfect a/v output with non proprietary cable...

1) You already know, plug cord in dongle, back out 1 segment,
2) ONLY connect the video out prong to tv (the yellow one in most cases)
3) Use standard 3.5mm to a stereo rca cable (red and white) and plug these into the same component input as the video.

viola, you have a rather clunky looking, but perfectly working video out for your ZV:M.... it's what i use.

i read the article...it make sense...but i bought my zvm (60gb) through from creative's e-shop and it was send to me (i live in Greece where only one store has this and sells it for 400€ (aprx 440$) there is no cable or anything else available here....and i am not into cutting cables....there isn't any other way to have the video output??? (it doesn't have to do with the current article but despite the fact that i installed the latest Europe firmware....i cant get the radio work ok....the Greek frequencies are 88.0 to 108...and my zvm stop at 98... :( ) but is great piece of mp3 player.... this my 3rd zen.....

Treaka on January 17, 2007 6:20 AM

I just got a video Ipod cable and it worked fine on my Zen 30Gb I didnt change a thing. The Cable was $20 Australian Crest was the brand and the box said it was for Video Ipod. 4 pole 3RCA out

All I did was plug it in, oh and made sure that in the mp3 player setting the video was set to PAL insted of NTSC (video formats specific to different places) possibly why some of you have lines across the video when playing back.

Also I just updated the firmware and the new Album image compression make displaying album art much much faster, Im very happy.

I got the cable from here www.dse.com.au

Hope that helps

Todd on January 18, 2007 8:08 PM

I bought the actual Zen Vision:M cable from Creative (supposedly) from Amazon.com (retailer www.antonline.com). I just got it in and I get stereo sound, but no video.

Anybody have this problem?

REIIPSA DEUS on January 19, 2007 12:10 AM

Pondering if the Zune A/V cables would work with the zen vision m.
Much obliged for your time.

SA4AQS on January 21, 2007 12:31 PM

I searching for a wiring diagram for the creative zen wired remote
for my zvm.

and i bought a a/v cable 4-pole to 3 rca but it dident work so i made a adaptter with 3 female rca to male rca its working just fine

ArchosHacker on January 26, 2007 11:51 PM

Thanks. I bought a Griffin Ipod cable, thinking stupidly these cables are standardized and it would work. Nope. So I rewired!

Archos:
For others out there, the Griffin cable has a Red, White, Black, and Ground under the sheathing. The Video wire is the BLACK wire.

John on January 28, 2007 1:44 PM

I would like to make my own cable but I have not been unable to find a 4 pole 3.5mm connector that I can solder my leads onto. Do any of you know where I can buy them from?

Splicing pre-bought cables is fine, and I know it will work, but I'd rather make my own cable.

Thanks

mustek av cable works perfectly (it makes portable video players etc. i hope this helps all.

Doug on February 4, 2007 6:25 PM

The Epson P-3000 device has the same pinout as you mention above as a "Camcorder" cable. It is actually a Sony Camcorder cable as there is a different standard from Panasonic. Panasonic's pins are: 1=Right, 2=Ground, 3=Video, 4=Left

bergkamp on February 6, 2007 10:44 PM

Anybody can tell me where can i get the video cable for Zen vision/archos/cowon in Hong Kong?

How much? I spend Hk$25 to buy one for Camcorder and find it could not work with my Archos..... ( "one-click" solution works perfectly however)

John on February 7, 2007 8:57 PM

I bought a av cable throught ebay. And it said it work with zen vision m and when i tried it, it look all scrabbled whats the problem.

Polish on February 8, 2007 12:43 AM

Hi there. I have a Dynex cable for an Ipod Video, and I am looking to make it work on a creative Zen Vision M. Would I just cut the sheathing back near the player and switch the ground and video, or how? I am very inexperienced for this sort of thing. Thanks

Corey2425 on February 8, 2007 8:07 PM

if yours is in black/white or w/ lines and shit just mess around w/ the output under (system-photo/video display settings) until you get it right

Ciaran on February 14, 2007 10:43 AM

Hey, I just bought an V cable for the zen vision m, but when i connect it to the zen, it says, "changing display to av settings" then the screen goes blank, with no video or audio. What's wrong?

diego on February 17, 2007 12:31 AM

well, i bought a comun camcorder cable and work good. The only thing that i do is dont insert the plug complete in the creative zen , only 3 lines. The image is good and the chanel left too, the inconvenient is that the chanel right not work, but the image is perfect.

Well is an option

I thought I'd give the ZUNE's cable a try for the heck of it. Pulling it out 1 Click and plugging Red Output into the Video Input on my TV gave me video.

bubba on February 23, 2007 8:57 PM

I got a cable off ebay and had to use the red RCA as the video feed.

Anyone know where to buy one cable for the ZVM to connect into the car auxiliary jack?? Usign the sync adapter really sucks.

Zekman on March 6, 2007 2:39 AM

Anyone know solution to this. I got my ZVM just about a month ago...but then all of a sudden the screen is kind of corrupted or something. All I see are white horizontal lines running across the screen. All seems to work well but the visibility of the screen is whacked. Any idea?

Rich on March 9, 2007 2:48 PM

You can pick up the cable for the car auxilary jack at Best Buy; that's where i picked mine up at (about a year ago).

alex on March 16, 2007 5:11 AM

jaycar electronics (www.jaycar.com.au) sell a 4 pole 3.5mm gold jack. cat no pp0138.
HOWEVER the solder points on this connector are tiny. i work there and my soldering skills are quite good but i think splicing a premade cable would be easier. for those of you who are game this connector is the only one i know of.

P.S. this is an excellent thread.
P.P.S. creative beats ipood any day.

I've got a standard camcorder cable and I just spent the last half hour re-wiring one of those RCA-to-SCART plugs so that all the wires are in the right places again :o) I'll let you know if it works once I've uploaded some content to my Vision:M but I'm 99% confident it will!

Is there anything like this to make a cable for the cowon d2?

DJ Zero on May 11, 2007 5:53 PM

Simple and cheap solution for av out...
Buy an adapter (one side 3.5mm stereo, other stereo chinch)
Plug in the adapter bot not fully than just half of it in the av out
Buy an ordinary chinch cable and plug it in the other side of the adapter
Connect the chinch to the tv (don't know whitch side od the chinch is for video and whitch for audio but simply try both combinations) and you shall see the pictuner on your tv screen

I just thought I'd mention this in case anyone can offer advice or confirm my thoughts:

I made up a 4-pole cable (soldering from scratch) for my Archos PMA400, to avoid paying for the travel cable. It plays TV and audio out fine, but will not pick up a TV signal when I try to use the VideoCorder application.

I think the problem is that I'm missing the extra four connections on either side of the 4-pole jack. I haven't been able to find out what these connections carry, but I guess it's something to do with the IR and Serial/Keyboard connections on the TV cradle.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I just bought a DEH-P6900UB pioneer cd/mp3 deck with the usb control and Im trying to hook my Vision M up to it. I says that its compatible with the Ipod/usb cable for Ipods. Ive tried the Vision M full 30 pin (or however many) to usb cable, the 3.5 mm to usb cable etc.. has anyone figured out how to hook this up?? Or could you provide me with the pin diagrams for the vision m and ipod so I can try to make a cable that will work??

Getting out the soldering kit tonight to try some wiring...
I bought a 4pin cable for £3 ($6) off ebay for my Archos 400 and guess what, no picture, just some weird bars on the TV.

hi there guys,
does anyone know if the av cable for all of the archos players is the same? only there are a couple on amazon for the same price but with different model numbers?

many thanks

klaatu on August 2, 2007 1:12 AM

I too need one for an Archos. According to the chart above, the Zen and the Archos use the same type. (Standard "camcorder" cables don't work.) Anyway, I found the actual Zen branded cable at monoprice.com for $2.50! Just ordered one. Will have it in 2 days and can report back.

Does anyone know if the headphone jack also doubles for av out with the right cable?

The reason I ask... I have seen av cables which connect to the proprietry connection at the bottom of the Zen and ones which are 3.5" connections to RCA.

I have a genuine Zen Vision M dock which takes a 3.5" av connection. What I wanted to work out is if I buy a av cable which is RCA to 3.5" will it not only work on the dock's av output but also the headphone jack (provided it has the correct routing).

For the times I'm travelling without the dock...

Thanks

can you tell me where i might be able to get my hands on a cable with the following pin-outs 1 - Ground, 2 - Red, 3 - White & 4 Yellow at about 3 meters in length

Cheers for the help Jamie

Ross is right.i have just tried it and it works!thanks buddy:-D

nemesis69 on September 10, 2007 8:29 AM

Jamie, you can use any standard commercial cable.all you have to do is to switch between the YELLOW(video connector)and the RED(audio connector).that means video to audio, audio to video.i use a cable from a sony camcorder and it works fine.just make sure you have activate the video out option in your player;-)n

There's a little spelling mistake. I think it has to be Cowon instead of Cown in the picture. Just wanted to say that.
Nevertheless great work!

The Best Buy Insignia Pilot series of PMP use the same 4 pole cable as the Ipod Video. You could add that to your diagram. I wish it would have been there earlier today. :)

I've had the same trouble here, looked at the jaycar 4pin 3.5mm plug- too difficult. looked at splicing the cable - messy for earth connections using sheathing. I bought 3xrca plugs, and 3x rca sockets, and am making an adapter - it's cheap, and easily available parts, and if I screw up, lower cost. here's my wiring diagram:

I am really confused.
When I was buying my ZEN 4GB player they told me I can connect it to my TV. Now I read and read and read all post with all these symbols and I DON'T KNOW (yes, I AM a blond! ;) )
Simple two questions:
1. Is Zen 4GB playing videos on TV?
2. What cable (inexpensive one) I have to use?

OK, here to clarify some fogginess for fellow zen vision m users:
i have a standard video cable from radioshack that i used for the zen. on this cord IF you switch the red and yellow it will work. NOW, another cable that came with my SHARP miniDV cam, it will work if you pull out ONE-NOTCH on the cord. So there are different cords, and different ways to connect them! good luck!

Johnny J on October 8, 2008 4:48 PM

Will Thanks for the link http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v94/mabrandt5/ZVMrewiringguide.jpg on wiring as this is the correct way to do this without buying the creative cable...and nick as you and others stated on here "a standard video cable from radioshack that i used for the zen. on this cord IF you switch the red and yellow it will work" This is not true.. as I paid $29.00 for the Radio Shack cable switched the red and yellow and pluged white to white and still buzzed!!! and then tried pulling out 1 notch.. but then lost right channel... what's the sence of that, having a mp3 player hooked to the car audio/video system playing 'MONO' again as Will showed in the link, the grounds and other wires must be rewired... again Will Thank You very much as your way works perfectly !!!!
