Samsung YP-Z5F Adds Radio and Voice Recording

samsung-yp-z5f.jpg

The Samsung Z5 line got a new member, the Z5F. From what it looks like the only difference is that it has an FM radio and voice recording, along with a new fairy-nice color. It’s uncertain when this “F” version of this player will hit the states.

This version of the Z5, along with the previous versions have the ability to playback video, but this feature has not been unlocked yet. Samsung decided against enabling this feature because they were not happy with it. So it may be possible to play back video on all Z5’s with future updates. We will keep you informed.

It looks like somebody threw-up on the iPod nano and *poof* the Samsung was born!

Nick on July 15, 2006 2:42 PM

Better sound, better monitor, way better price and of course 4GB instead of 2. I think Samsung has given a very good product that EQUALY stands in front of iPods. In case that you don't like pink you can have in either grey or (better) black.

HYAK on August 8, 2006 5:57 AM

it looks too much like candy, and the matte finish looks really bad.
I'd definitely go with the black or silver.

I have a Samsung YP-Z5 4gb. AND IT IS WAY BETTER THAN NANO!! Nano killer.

I had a nano and it was nice. But Samsung has soon many more options, much better screen and better sound quality. Using WMP is 20 times better than Itunes. People with IPOD's are missing out so much more they can do with MP3 players!

My friend in China told me Samsung has made a YP-Z5 MP3 player in a 8GB and all the options the FM and voice recorder. Bring that over to the U.S. and that will be an IPOD killer. As long as it's under $350.

HOLY SHIT DIS TING IS DAMN COOL I MEAN U COULD HEAR CLEARLY AND EVERYTHING ....ALSO DA OPTIANS....AND I HAVE IT IN SILVER SO WOW!!!

Alguien on November 30, 2006 4:00 AM

Does anyone know if it supports FM recording. I read specifications and downloaded manual but it seems that only supports voice recording, but not FM recording.

I think we must understand '....Adds Radio, and Voice Recording' ???

CHIZ on March 3, 2007 10:42 PM

I WAS LUCKY & FOUND 1 ON THE BUS ON MY BIRTHDAY, ITS DEFINATLY BETTER THAN A NANO...I JUST WISH I HAD A PINK 1

nitraM on March 17, 2007 11:39 PM

The sound quality is better than my PC's onboard audio... it has SRS WOW and an equaliser that DOES NEVER distort. The sound audio is legendary...

With the Ipod nano, its only good for heaps of song storage and smaller size... the ipod has crappy sound quality, as well as a small screen, no radio, it can do voice recording but needs third party software to run it. Of course the ipod has better battery life; it compromises on sound quality like crazy, using a low power and low quality codec.

YP-25F comes with a video codec... but i dont understand why samsung didn't enable it... probably battery life.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely.
