Transcend T.sonic 520 with Karaoke Feature

transcend-t-sonic-520.jpg

Karaoke feature? I am not sure if that is something you want to brag about. Regardless, the MP3 player is your average flash based player that sells on Transcends website for $87 and $117 for a half a gig and a gig including shipping and taxes.

The 520 supports MP3, WMA, and WAV file formats. It also has voice recording, line-in recording and an OLED screen. The player also comes with a 10 pack of reusable earplugs for when you use the karaoke feature.

I bought it very recently. hey!! let me tell you once again it's not that I can't afford to buy an Ipod but it's so becoming common and morever I'm sick of hearing the name itself that's why i go foe this brand and this is way better than Ipod trust me the quality of the sound is awesome nd the functionality is 10 out of 10, it has FM, FM recording, Voice recording, Line recording, A-B repeat, you can change the speed of the player and the navigation of the song is also easy. Instead of going for Ipod go for this one and save few thousand and buy a Sony Headphone which cost around 1K and you'll be satisfied and it's not that the provided headphone is under the standard it's good and moreover it's a branded earphone Lanyard earphone good one but the lows(bass) are little poor but for average people it's a very good one, Hey!! I forgot to tell you the price I bought the one which is 1 GB it cost me Rs. 4800/- and for 520Mb I think it's around Rs.3600/-. It's a very good buy!!!!

Mail me when you bought it cos I wannna hear your feedback too

Well I've different experience with this one. It has very fragile body. It is locking up all the time and today it just stop working at all. I thought it's due a batteries but I've tried recharged one and nothing happends (I've even tried that recover procedure from users manual). It is still working as a flash disk but hey...it HAS many beautiful functions but the quality is horrible. I'd recommend you to spend more money for device from better manufacturer.

Yes, this player does support VBR. I've played any number of VBR files on the 2GB model (after upgrading to firmware 1.3).

Make sure you apply the latest firmware update. I bought a 2GB T.sonic 520 and it came with firmware 1.20. I found that if I powered off the machine then it start the current MP3 at the beginning again. After applying firmware update 1.30, I could power off and it would remember where I was (however it still loses its place if you let it poweroff due to timeout rather than an overt poweroff).

One caution: like most MP3 players, you'll need access to a Windows 2000/XP system to run the firmware upgrade utility. I use Mac OS X, so I had to convince a buddy to let me use his Windows box to apply the firmware update.

Also make sure you download the user manual from the transcend support website ... the manual included with the player is abbreviated (e.g., doesn't tell you how to power off).

The sound is quite good, rivaling my Archos MP3 player. Yes, VBR is supported. Most of my MP3 library is ripped as VBR.

The sound is very good. Using a decent set of earbuds it has a full, rich sound with deep bass resonse. Do yourself a favor and don't even open the included earbuds. They sound like the cheap dollar store earbuds.

I've played the T.Sonic 520 through my Camry's JBL 440 watt sound system and was amazed. No noticable background hiss in quiet passages. Excellent sound with extended bass response. Classical, Rock, Jazz all sound detailed and clear. I can say my expectations were exceeded!

I like the folder navigation. It is quite easy to use. While it doesn't support playlists; it does allow song play by folder. A folder can play th e songs in order, or shuffle them. Nice.

Another feature I like is there is a quick fade in/out of songs as they change. The last half second of a song rapidly fades out, and the first half second the next song fades in.

I use rechargable NiMH 850ma batteries and get over 10 hours of play on a charge.

    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 has been gaining quite a following lately and rightfully so. If you are looking for something well designed, innovative, and feature packed; you should look into this full touch screen wonder. The Bluetooth feature set is what I find to be the most intriguing, with the ability to tether to your phone to make calls or wirelessly transfer with no restrictions to other P2s. Check out the review or stop by our ever growing P2 forums to get the latest info.

  • Toshiba Gigabeat T400
    toshiba gigabeat t400

The Gigabeat T400 is without a doubt my favorite flash player at the moment. It does have one major setback in that it only comes in a 4GB, shame on you Toshiba. What makes me love this player is it's ultra slick sexy design, very easy- just pick up and use interface, and killer sound quality that would make Cowon users envious. This player is a must buy for anyone who sports a premium set of headphones. Full review to come but you should really just buy one.

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • JAYS q-JAYS
    JAYS q-JAYS

The q-JAYS are great in ear phones. They offer excellent clarity, silky treble, realistic midrange, and a nice bass response. They're comfortable, incredibly tiny, and come with a huge selection of accessories. While they certainly are analytic phones, they're still fun to listen to. The q-JAYS respond well to EQing, and can be tweaked to fit almost anyone's sound preference. Recommended for anyone owning a good sounding player and well encoded audio files. Check out our review.
