Sony A1000 A3000 Volume Limit Unlock

sony-a1000-a3000-volume-unl.jpg

One of the problems with the Sony players is that the volume may not be loud enough for some people or it is not enough power to drive some of the larger audiophile headphones.

The instructions for this volume unlock has showed up on eBay for two bucks or so. However, I feel that selling information that is not yours and that is available for free on the internet is a bit unethical. So here you have it free information on unlocking the volume to your NW-A1000 and NW-A3000. Enjoy.

  1. Press HOLD to put the player in hold mode.
  2. Hold down LINK and press in order UP, DOWN, OPTION, UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, LEFT, PLAY/PAUSE, OPTION.
  3. Press HOLD to turn hold off. You will now be in test mode.
  4. Press RIGHT to display menu items
  5. Press UP/DOWN until you get to “OTHERS”
  6. Press RIGHT to display next menu.
  7. Press UP/DOWN until you get to “SP SET”
  8. Press PLAY/PAUSE, “ON/OFF” is displayed.
  9. Press OPTION, “ON/OFF” will be selected.
  10. Press PLAY/PAUSE and it will be entered.
  11. Exit play mode by pressing and holding BACK for more than a few seconds, release, and then turn the player off.

If you have a Sony HD1, HD3, or HD5, you will find this volume hack useful.

lisa on January 20, 2006 4:57 PM

i must be the most stupid person in the world cos i CAN NOT do this HELPPPPPPP !

KB on January 23, 2006 8:29 PM

connect try having the sync off or not converting the tracks that way its quick a but you get up to the normal amount of songs on it eg 6gb = 1500 mp3s at 128bit

where as the atrac3plus can double it which is ace but it takes about 10sec on each track and can slow your computer down.... but on a 6gb you can get like more tehn 3000 tracks its mint

tip to ya all dont do anyhing less then 64kb on the atrack and 128 for mp3s anything less an its crap to hear for the head phones

i also tested my one and the battery lasted 18 to 19 hours so that s good i also charged it like for 15mins once from the battery "low need charge " thing and it lasted almost 10hours now thats good sony rule on battery life

you can try using sonic stage instead but you lose the link ft. and the 100 top favs and that lot

............
guys i think i'm f*ck=d here i did that and it didnt up the vol higher then its it already is.

but iwent to the power thing and it said ready and then it was stuck on write for like 5mins i was sh1ting it cuz i couldnt turn it off or anything then it just cam back like so im saved im staying out of that menu..... thanks for telling us anywayt though

kipaaa on January 25, 2006 10:15 AM

Manders on January 28, 2006 7:27 AM

Hey i used this hack but my battery life is now struggling to last up to 6 hours is this anything to do with the hack or is it simply a faulty unit?!?!? please help sum1, think this is a great system otherwise

Manders on January 28, 2006 7:32 AM

1 other thing, the only thing that is lacking is a clock i wud really like a clock on this system, iv noticed the clock menu in others, duz this mean there is the option of having a clock, you would think there would be as it works out dates, from play history. cheers

reason on February 1, 2006 8:47 AM

Works on mine. The volume is twice louder now. Also when you got into the test menu, you can change any other variables ; but don't know if they can be harmful or not. Thanks a lot.

dioltas on February 2, 2006 11:19 AM

You cant change the greetings etc thrugh that menu. all those weird things are just to check that the unit is working properly. if it stops responding its because its checking its ram or hdd etc. if it does stop responding, dont panic, just give it a while or else press the reset button at the bottom with a paper clip. Only thing is, you'll lose all your songs and will have to transfer them again.

happy on February 6, 2006 8:07 AM

Tony on February 17, 2006 7:36 AM

Thanks for this. I did this a few weeks ago and the volume was much higher. Suddenly, it has cut back to its old level. I've checked using your hack and the limiter is still set to off. I even set it on then off again but the volume won't go louder. Any suggestions please?

tony on February 17, 2006 2:59 PM

Fluxus 11 on March 26, 2006 2:45 PM

Thanks it worked just fine. But i have another question. There is dust under the front cover, how can i get the cover of so i can clean it? It bugs me! I tried it from the other side but i could only get the battery out. (I have the NW-A3000).

Usman on March 28, 2006 8:46 AM

Cheers Mate, Its made it soo much better now!!...

Usman on March 28, 2006 8:51 AM

Fluxus 11, i know what u mean, i've got the same problem with the dusty screen, (I have a NW-A1000 though), does anyone have any ideas on how to clean the screen, or do i have to live with it like this now!??...

will on March 28, 2006 1:08 PM

Thanks for the tip, it worked fine for my NW-A1000 and the volume has gone right up. But what do all the other settings mean? I'm sure there is a way to change the welcome message.

hey do i have to have my NWA1000 turned off? ive tried this dozens of times...it hasnt worked. will it say its in test mode on the screen? please help :(

Usman on March 29, 2006 5:18 AM

Hey Jane, No you don't have to have your NWA1000 turned off, it has to be on, follow the instructions at the top, first get it to your main menu screen, and then press the buttons which it says to do in step number 2, and then you get a black screen with just the word "POWER" written on it, and then after that just follow what it says at the top. hope that helps.

Laura on March 30, 2006 1:32 AM

Hi!
Thanks for the volume limit unlock its great, now I can hear my player on the bus without all the outside noise bothering me!

Ive got a question if anyone at all can help me though. The Hold button works fine for me when the player is on, but once I turn it off, I cant put the player on hold (I wish it was a slide button). Now whenever I'm in class if I move even a little, the side button might be pressed, turning the player on and killing the battery, or playing music out loud. This is SO ANNNNNOYING!! Can anyone help??

Paolo on April 4, 2006 6:08 PM

thanks, worked perfectly on my walkman, i now have the delight of listening to you spin me round without the sound of cars passing by! haha... nearly bought this info off ebay, glad i didn't!

young mr. skidadam on April 9, 2006 8:27 AM

It worked straight away and the difference is unbelievable!!!!!

p.s. does it really effect the battery life???

killian ryan on April 9, 2006 10:57 AM

excellent stuff, cheers

javier on April 10, 2006 6:12 AM

thanks! this hack is great, i wasn't too happy about this player until now, it wasn't loud enough for my workout now it is :)

thumbs down way down to sony for hiding this and to the people selling the hack on ebay.

to the person asking about the hold function while off >> it is indeed anoying, it looks there's nothing we can do, i checked the manual and it says clearly this funtion won't work while off :(

one more thing they need to do to make this player a great one, fix the connect player!! it's crap!!! i use sonic stage to rip the tracks from cds and convert other formats to atrac and them import from connect player. Sonic stage works a lot faster and has more option to edit tracks.

Bug-C on April 11, 2006 2:01 PM

GREAT TIP DUDE...

I'm a Trance/Techno/prgressive fanatic... I just cant get enough of the high volume, low bass frequenties it produces now... no distortion.. yeay.. Actually i never guessed Sony was this good... after a few hacks.. ;)

Audio quallity RULES at high volume...
(but expect shorter play hours)

Phil on April 17, 2006 3:01 PM

If something happens, you can put it back the way it was :p

When I'm in SP SET mode do I need to press the play/pause button when the screen is showing off or on? Neither seem to make any difference to the volume.

Dan on May 11, 2006 5:59 PM

Phil, not sure how to remove the dust but when you've worked it out a skin would stop anymore getting in. I've just bought a silicone skin and it does a good job of stopping any dust or any muck getting in.

I got it from techfocus.co.uk, see following link nwa3000 skin

100% Top of the class A+ etc... Worked exactly as stated, would love to know what all the other options in the diagnostic mode do, not brave enough to fiddle about with it myself.

Thanks for sharing.

Steven on May 14, 2006 5:00 PM

I only got the 3 options but i noticed that when you go into settings there is a AVLS ( volume limit ) and you go into that and can take the volume limit off, i'm not sure if thats an easier way of doind it.

Can any1 tell me what there volume goes up to once they have used the hack??? thanks!!! i never used the hack and my volume can go up to 30. When the volume limit is on it can only go up to 17.

please reply thanxyou.

Thanks for the help.

Sidewinder on May 17, 2006 7:26 PM

ok, read long and weary, don't think my problem has been covered.

I've gone through all the steps, volume is real loud, all good, but when I hold the BACK button to go out of the test menu, it turns the player off, rather than merely go back to the play menu. When I turn it back on, the volume is back to what it was originally. However, when I go into the TEST menu again, the music gets really loud. So my player is recognizing the volume unlimited, but only when I'm in the TEST menu. Any ideas/suggestions?

Cheers

Starting to get dust under buttons! The front plastic cover looks like it should be able to be removed. If anyone has done this tell me how it went.

Any reason why sony let it play WMA but not protected WMA (DRM) even if you have the licence.

The Rider on May 24, 2006 4:30 PM

nice little hack, been forever frustrated at lack of volume since receiving the 1000 as a X-mas gift but never mentioned it to the gifthorse. Only problem now is that it seems to zap battery life. This is one problem I can live with. Give me ear splitting volume anyday. Thanks ever so much. Would now recommend it as a viable MP3 player.

RCB on May 27, 2006 3:38 AM

Oh, man, can you find a similar hack for a Creative MuVo?

Okay, it's a cheap little device - I got it for free. But it's okay on all counts except I can't hear it when I'm working at the fume hood, where I most want to be listening to stuff.

mo on May 30, 2006 9:32 AM

thanks alot 4 the hack, just like most other people i thought that the vol was a bit on the low side when i first got it, thought that sony may have done it on purpose, so just incase people started going def and then tried to sue there ass. well done man, much respect. good to know that there is some people out their that have some decency about them. unlike those who try and sell that kind of info, truly sad. anyway thanks again. and for those who had trouble when they got into the mode, if it doesn't work when u press to the right, then try pressing to the left,it worked 4 me when i did this. trial and error. good luck

thanxs,

to hold your sony walkman when off:

make sure no songs are playing, press the hold button until it locks, after a few seconds, it will turn off

all buttons are now locked, and the only way to use it again is to press the hold button at the top.

simple!

this stops it from wasting battery by turning it on

am i really dull???? where is the link button??

Squeaklet on June 26, 2006 6:09 PM

F*ing awesome trick there!
I forgot I had mine on 30 by default and did it in a quiet room.
I turned it on and nearly went deaf =D
Very happy with it now! (although battery life is eaten slightly quicker but playing with the display settings after upgrading to firmware v3 should help you battery life loving people out there.... disable s/savers, popups, lower brightness and so on).
I'm just curious as to where the hell people find this out. =p
Rather useful really.
Thanks! =]

Chris on July 16, 2006 8:49 PM

HELP!, I unlocked my volume at a sony centre yesterday and was happy that it was so loud, but when i came to put more songs on it, I got a pop-up saying that the device connected has malfunctioned and was unable to be found, what's that all about?

I can no longer add/remove songs, on CONNECT or SonicStage

Help me out someone, please!

Chris on July 16, 2006 8:53 PM

forgot too add, Artist Link isn't all that good anyway, it just moves from one artist to other artists from the same genre/date/etc. and to use the hack the player must be on HOLD, if it's not on hold, when you press the artist link button you'll just activate the artist link, hence where the cannot find linked artists comes from

email me about the problem above this one at

I need help. please email me at karakarra@yahoo.com

I bought the sony NWA-1000 and the software installation disc that came with it is useless.. I can install on computer but when i click connectplayer icon on desktop, nothing launches. I hear this software is problematic. I've tried downloading sonicstage but halfway through installation, the process terminates itself from installing completely. My player is less than 6 months old and i haven tbeen able to use it, or put songs into it. This is frustrating. Can anyone help me please?

Matthew on July 19, 2006 10:29 AM

Just wanted to say thankyou. I was beginning to regret buying the player, but not now! Cheers!

Ben on July 20, 2006 2:50 PM

Ariana - You may find that it is your computer/hardware/viruses causing such problems as software hanging or failure to execute files such as the connect software. I can't tell how computer savvy you are from a post, but you may find if you virus scan, spyware scan, DeFrag HDD, And make sure that you keep at least 15% hdd space at all times, just to ensure complete smoothness on your system.

Hardware itself could be a problem, slow system anyway?

it ses on and off on the sp set yea but wot shud it b on 2 make it louder on or of lol ?

Nico on August 4, 2006 10:24 AM

I owned a NWHD5H,and I've done then, the same thing as described on this forum. All I can say is that I also change in "Others" menu the dest(maybe it stays for destination(of the player):I changed the EU dest to US,and on the NW3000 seems that works too.I don't know if it's right, but now I can listen to the songs with a volume set around 15-18 (it depends on the song, obviously).I also noticed that when you do the SP thing and return to the player, the volume it's higher because it's gone to 25!So,I don't know if I made things properly, but I think that listen to a song at 17-18(the max level is 30) it's okay.Anyway, let me know, maybe I'm wrong. And don't forget:use a decent pair of earphones!:-D ;-p

chowzy on August 4, 2006 7:53 PM

At last I can listen to Death From Above 1979 the way its ment to be, ear bleeding-ly loud.

steve on August 6, 2006 1:31 PM

Tried this on the NW-A3000 and it worked somewhat.

I use this player through my speakers, with Line out, and can notice a distinct dip in volume every now and then in the middle of a song. Strange, and extremely annoying :(

Also, regarding battery saving, leaving the screensavers on will be better than to have them off, there is more on screen when theyre not active. :)

McDirts on August 9, 2006 12:25 PM

Hello, thanks for posting this hack. I've got to say though, I did it numerous times and all it does is automatically turn the volume up to 30, apart from that when you turn it down it's back to the normal levels. Unless I'm doing something wrong here SP SET - ON OFF seems to have no noticeable effect whatsoever. Anyone else found this or got any tips for making it work?
Also, anyone noticed on Sonic Stage it 'loses' tracks or can't locate them when you try and playback via the PC, despite having loaded them onto the NWA 3000.
All in all I've got to say I'm not massively impressed with the NWA 3000 or Sony's software - seems like another thing they've missed the boat on.

Nico on August 10, 2006 10:13 AM

McDirts:if you had spent sometime to read my previuos post, you had had notice that I've found that when you try to put the SP SET Off,it automatically goes to 25,that's why it sounds louder. But anyway, you can listen to the track with a volume set between 15-18(it depends on the tracks,of course, and of the earphones you are using).I don't think it's low-pitched for the ears. The same thing was for the NWHD5:you can unlock the volume, but it was slightly louder. On the NWA3000 it's much higher, and I'm sure with the sound pressure off it's slight louder too.But I know (by friends and personal experience)that volume on other devices is set more or less the same, though thy don't have SP.One example is the Kenwood HD20:the sound is great(and the software is even worst than Sony's)but it set at max.30 and the right track volume is 17-18.So don't worry about all this volume thing, and try to enjoy the player.I say this to you and everybody concerned about the palyer's settings in this forum.

McDirts on August 10, 2006 10:35 AM

I'm not sure what your point is Nico. I must've spent about an hour scrolling between posts on this forum, including reading your last post, and did try your changing destination trick. I also took it to the Sony Centre near me and got them to have a fiddle with it - Nada. The volume stayed stubbornly the same.
I put it on this morning and it suddenly bacame louder. Overnight miracles do happen I'll say this though - "try to enjoy the player" isn't much of an advert for a £200 mp3 player.
"What's your Sony NWA 3000 like then?"
"Oh, well, it's ok I suppose, it was a bit quiet but I had to perform a convuluted hack on it and now it's got a normal volume level, oh, and the software's a bit rubbish and constantly loses files, but, well, I try to enjoy it."
Got to be stoical about these things haven't we?

derek r on August 10, 2006 11:45 AM

i wish to unlock volumn lock on Sony NW A1200 can anyone assist

Nico on August 10, 2006 7:15 PM

McDirts,I didn't want to make jokes.I was just trying to say that if you listen to the track at a 15-18 volume sound,it's very good, because it's the standard of other's players(as mentioned above) that didn't come with SP Level.I also said that with a decent pair of earphones(like Sennheiser or Koss in-ear plug) 15 set is very loud for the ears, and I know ,because I'm partly deaf.I'm happy for you, anyway,I think now you listen to the tracks at 8-9 level(:-p).What can I say?I hope this will work for me too,if the volume it's not meant to be at 15(with a max of 30!)but at 8 or 9 with the hack. Two last things:I also paid "200€ for my device, and with the memory of the NWHD5 I knew what I was about to buy.I mean:the volume hack, the sofrtware and the rest...And You?And also, when I made the hack, the SP Set was already off.So...

PS to Derek:try the hack for the NW A1000. It should work,I think.Best luck.

Timmy on August 10, 2006 7:37 PM

Guys,as Nico said on the other post:the volume diffrence between on and off is sightly:you shouldn't expect Loud Volume Sound at 7 or 8.

Nico on August 10, 2006 9:08 PM

McDirts,I have to say:you were right.I tried to set the SP SET On,to see if it would make any difference. It doeesn't.On or Off it's the same(at least on my device).I still think that 15 -18 is a loud sound for tracks on a 30 max.level sound device. But maybe with the hack working, you could listen to even low-pitched level.I will try to figure out if I can fix that on mine.

Kim on August 11, 2006 5:43 AM

i used this hack then was scrolling through through what else u could do and i founf in the audio section maxoutput. if u go into this u can also increase the volume =]

mcdirts on August 11, 2006 9:20 AM

It's still one of the most innovatively designed mp3s on the market I'd say though... that's something it's got going for it.

Nico on August 11, 2006 11:55 AM

Innovative?Mmhhhh...I dunno...Anyway,for the sound quality,the NWHD5 iis waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better...

Edverd on August 15, 2006 5:13 AM

the volume is still the same! this hack is only to unable AVLS. Use different earphones/headphones to get louder sound! That's the only way.....I think.....

Nick on August 15, 2006 11:40 AM

Hah.. who buys this overpriced sony crap anyways?
It's no better than an ipod...

McDirts on August 15, 2006 12:31 PM

Anyone know of an mp3 player that works on AA batteries so you don't have to get a new one when the inbuilt rechargable battery runs out? That's why I ultimately won't get rid of my HiMD player. 1 GIG a disc and runs on a single AA battery. That mother's going to last you longer than an iPod or a NWA 3000.

KT on August 17, 2006 9:43 AM

Hey does anyone know how long the sony A1200 model takes to fully charge via a PC?

hardstyle is my style on August 17, 2006 3:39 PM

also if you want it nice and loud get some decent Headphones/Ear buds i strongly recomend Sony MDR ED21LP ( 16mm driver unit and bass booster and they kick the pants of IPod ear buds and even the new bose headphones and there at a good price 20 quid

Nico on August 18, 2006 10:05 AM

Hardstyle...I have that earphones, and on an Mp3 palyer are crap:the sound is dull, and you have have to increase the volume of the device a lot. It's much, very much better to use Koss' Spark-Plug or Plug earphones...On Sony devices at least, they give you best sound(they're anyway among the bests, and they are cheap too). And to McDirts:that's why I own a NWHD5H(30 Gb limited edition):because it has the rechargeable batteries, that lasts very longer:in fact, they are replaceable. :-P .And to everybody still concerned about the volume hack:I read on a forum that it doesn't change the 30 max.set volume of the device, that's absurd...It just change the decibel output with volume set loud(it means near 30).Or so they say...Again:try to enjoy...(eh,McDirts? ;-) )

why doesn't it work with an A1200 ??
I'm desesperate with this sound....

GB on January 1, 2007 1:34 PM

Hi
I have the same problem as Shlo, my A1200 doesn't get any louder. Any idea's please.

LordLucan on January 5, 2007 7:15 AM

You don't need to do this with the A1200 as the volume limit is in the setting menu, which you can get to from the front screen.

Its the AVLS setting, just turn this to off, it has the same affect

logik on January 10, 2007 11:32 AM

hey cheers mate thanks for the info it worked,

now i can listen to music the way it should be.............LOUD!

CJ on January 11, 2007 4:02 PM

I was wondering if anyone had problems with the volume still not working even after setting the SP SET to off?
Thanks

FRantic on January 12, 2007 4:20 PM

Thank you very much! Sony is the besttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wayne on January 15, 2007 4:22 PM

This worked on my A1200. Cheers!

Just been down the gym and could hardly hear it over the background "music". Followed the instructons and nearly burst my ear drums ;o)

The AVLS just limits the players volume to 13

Thanks again

John on January 16, 2007 7:16 AM

Wayne

Not quite sure from your posting whether you just turned the AVLS setting to off on the player or whether you unlocked it using the above instructions?

Yimmin on January 18, 2007 4:46 PM

It worked on my Sony NW-A1200 (8GB Model). Volume sky high now :-). now i dont have to hear the "pubilc" whilst am out and about woohoo!

Cheers to the LAD who put this up!

I knew sony had something fishy about this 'volume limiter'! call me deaf, but am a DJ and i need loud music on the go! f**k the law

davebush on February 19, 2007 4:23 PM

For every one who wants to clean the front:

The plastic cover just clips on. If you push the plastic away from the metal about on a level with the controls and the same distance from the other end it just pops off.

You then get two platic covers (one coloured and one clear) and can clean away.

Dompallot on March 1, 2007 6:24 AM

I tried popping the cover off and it does come away a little at the top but doesn't seem to want to go any furthur. I dont want to break the screen.

Will it definetly pop off? How much force is required?

Laura on March 11, 2007 7:44 PM

Is anyone elses battery life really rubbish? Is it a trait of the player or is my unit just faulty?
I charge the unit overnight, maximum of 9 hours or so, and the battery can be on one bar within 3/4 hours.

I have an NW-A1000.

Thanks.

holly on March 16, 2007 8:03 AM

I have purchased an NWA 3000 recently brand new on a bargain website.
I have tried the hack and it works perfectly....... Im not too bothered with how loud it is, just that the bass is not enough, it's better after the hack!
Great Stuff!!

Just one question, the player claims 35 hours battery with ATRAC3 play, with this hack working along with it, how many hours battery do I expect to have now?

kon/nos on April 18, 2007 2:41 PM

i have the sony nw-s703f and i want to unlock volume limit plz help i lokk in the internet almost 2 days for it plz send somebody a hack in my email

AG on April 19, 2007 6:53 AM

I got an NWA-3000 last week, and did a firmware flash from the Sony website - there's an option that allows AVLS to be turned off and then the volume goes more than loud enough.

Kris on May 8, 2007 5:10 AM

I'v ebeen going mad over the volume for the last year and just found this - yay - worked first time

Cheers

Johnnyboy on May 11, 2007 8:55 AM

I love this tip, now i'm Very Happy with my MP3 player, and not just satisfied with it. It still wasn't worth 250€'s. Riddle me this: How do i have the MP3 player on LOCK when it's off and stored in my Backpack, to prevent it from turning on while it's inside the bag?

Jules on May 20, 2007 8:24 AM

U rock! Really, the bass is ridicolous now! Dam, I love U mate!

4ntarctic on May 22, 2007 3:30 PM

Fluxus 11 and Usman. I had the exact same problem with the dust when i first bought mine - i took it back to Sony Centre - they said it was a fault in the player... and sent a load back that they had and then replaced mine.

Katie Reichert on May 29, 2007 1:35 PM

I tried it and it DIDN'T work what can I do? I have an NWA 3000 and i want to know whether a song can be playing or paused when you do it

can anyone help me unlock he volume limit for my sony mp3 player. its the NW-A805. the system is amazing but wen im in the bus or subway thers no way i can hear my music =( pls help anyone

Kev on July 17, 2007 8:24 PM

It worked for me, thank you so much.

The total after the hack will still be 30.
But.
After the hack, the level 20 will be the total volume (30) to before doing the hack, so you can go an extra 10 more.

So basically it lets you have a total of 40 instead of 30, although as i said, it still comes up as 30.

If that makes no sense what so ever then sorry.

Worked 1st time :P
But it sounds like the sound quality even when not so loud has gone a bit lower...and im using those 40 quid in ear headphones from sony...

Or is it me? lol

Dale on July 31, 2007 4:40 AM

Hey it works great thanks. What are the other things for in the test mode.

Thanks again

Ali on August 15, 2007 7:02 PM

This worked great! When I switched my player back on I had to pull the headphones out of my ears, it was that loud!

Dust got into my player, I was searching the internet for ages trying to find a solution, but no luck, I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

But I need help. The back on my player is really loose, does anyone know a way I can remove the back and replace it more securely? I've got the NW-A1200 if that helps.

Thanks Chilli awesome hack.

Top MP3 Players
abi Editor's Choice
  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
    SanDisk Sansa Clip

The Clip has a fantastic little form factor; cheap in build quality but very rugged. The interface is simple and relatively straight forward. The features on the clip are more or less average, mostly identical to the Sansa Express. However, what earns this player a spot in Editor’s Choice is the superb sound quality; you will not find another player at this size and price that can match it. Read the full review or go ahead and buy it.

  • Samsung P3
    Samsung P2

The Samsung P2 was a success and the P3 is a very welcome and substantial update. Samsung has paid close attention to users on P2 issues and made great strides in addressing and improving most of them. The best feature of the P3 is its native video support. Most content you thow at it will playback without conversion on the great looking screen. Stop by the Samsung P3 forums for more details or check out our indepth P3 review.

  • Microsoft Zune 120
    Samsung P2

Sure, many of us are not big fans of the walled garden, but there are a lot of great things going on with the Zune- sturdy hardware, ultra easy to use user interface, and a media player that is worthy of editor’s choice. The best part of the Zune is the constant firmware and software updates virtually giving you a new device at each major refresh. You can check out the latest Zune 120 & 16 review or stop by our Zune forums for the latest.

  • Cowon iAudio D2
    Cowon iAudio D2

The D2 is a fantastic sounding PMP with a very nice looking screen and a tone of features. One of the best features of the D2 is the SDHC slot allowing you to add another 32GB to this small wonder. The touch interface does not lend well to on the move operation, but it is not enough to keep it from being an editor’s choice. You can find usually find it at Amazon for the best price and before to check out the review.

  • Phonak Audéo PFE
    Phonak PFE

Phonak Audéo PFE offer outstanding clarity and precision; natural, dynamic mids and treble, and decent bass for a single armature in-ear phone. They handle dense, complex music very well. The PFE work well with most acoustic and some electronic music genres, but bassheads might have to look at other alternatives. They're great for sports as well, since they fit very securely. Check out our review.
